Best Induction Stove Cookware Set for Everyday Use – Review and Buying Guide

Transforming your kitchen from the conventional cooking modes to the easy, safe, cost effective mode like induction cooking is sure to be the best decision you have ever made.Whether it is your home-kitchen or your semi-commercial restaurant, using an induction cooktop for cooking is the one choice most chefs and owners make. But, the kitchen would not be complete if you do not buy induction compatible cookwares as well. The base of the cookware must be of magnetic material, and this includes induction frying pans, saute pans, induction saucepans, casseroles and so on. Induction safe cookwares available in the market today are made of different materials like cast iron and stainless steel and may have bottoms made of non-stick enamel and copper. Buying the right cookware depends on factors like style, material and price. When comparing costs an induction pan may cost more than the aluminium or cast iron. But this does not mean that the expensive ones are the best. Some cookwares hardly allows foods to stick, burnout or blacken. They may be made up of a combination of different materials. Check out some pointers to choose the right induction cookware 2017.

Tips for Buying Induction Stove Cookware

Always make sure that the products you look for are “induction ready cookware”. Reading their product specs or asking the seller will give you the correct details. All induction cooktops will not start if the cookware is not induction compatible. Keep in mind that all stainless steel based cookwares are not induction ready. Some cookwares may have other layers of metals inside them. The best way to make sure is to see whether a magnet sticks at the bottom of the cookware.

  1. Most of the induction stoves will sense the cookware surface to check whether it is even. If the bottom of the cookware is not even, heat will not be transferred throughout the surface. Utensils may also vibrate and generate noise, and make scratches on the surface.
  2. Make sure that the handles of the induction pots and pans are firmly riveted. Also make sure that they are heat insulated. When cooking at high temperatures, you must not burn your hand or put it down.
  3. If you are buying all the cookwares from ground one, make sure that you have an idea of the number of induction pots and casseroles you need. This highly depends on how many people you intend to cook for. It is not a good plan to buy a wide range of cookwares if the total members to cook food for is limited.
  4. Make sure that you buy pan lids after getting an idea of what material you need. Some pans may have glass lids, which give it a distinct look. But they may seem heavy to carry to let off steam.
  5. If you are using other conventional cooking methods along with induction, buy cookwares that go with all modes.
  6. Track your cooking style before choosing the right cookware. If you want to seam meat often, it is good to buy a stainless steel based cookware. If you want to cook foods slowly (sauces), you must buy a cookware that is copper lined.

Different Types of Cookware for Induction Stove

The main difference in the pans and pots used in induction cooking is coating and cladding types. The most common coating is the non-stick coating which helps in cooking your food to a brown color without sticking to the bottom of the induction pan set. This is achieved by the teflon coating technology. There are hard-coat anodized utensils available in the market today which can maintain more heat, but has the surface of the cookware to be more hard. Cladding mostly refers to the different combination of metals that are set as layers on the cookware. Such cookwares will have their inner and outer walls made of stainless steel while adding intermediate layers of aluminium and copper. Some commonly used types of induction cookwares are explained below. We have also provided links to check the price range of the induction cookware sets online.

Stainless Steel Induction Cookware

The best option for a professional chef is the wide range of stainless steel cookwares offered by various brands like Duxtop, All Clad, Calphalon, Cuisinart and more. The main reason for choosing stainless steel as the core material is its high affordability along with its hard wearing, long lasting feature. The products may vary in price and quality depending on the number of cores sandwiched between the layers of stainless steel. Some of the best induction cookware set have stainless steel as the base material and have aluminium and copper layers sandwiched inside the stainless steel, while some have just a layer of aluminium. These layers may extend from the base of the cookware to the sides to extend the heat so that cooking is carried out smoothly.

The stainless steel models with aluminium layers in between 2 layers of stainless steel is called tri-ply. Some models have outer layers of stainless steel bonded with 2 layers of aluminium and 1 layer of copper. Such models guarantees maximum heat distribution and are called 5-ply.

One of the best stainless steel cookware that is apt for all conditions is the tri-ply model called the Duxtop Whole-Clad Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Induction Ready Premium Cookware 9-Pc Set .

Copper Cookware for Induction Cooktops

Copper cookwares are very much adaptive to heat and thus makes cooking a fairly easy job. The main factor to be noted before buying them is that the  utensils are clad with other materials. Direct exposure to acidic and alkaline foods may cause the copper to react and can thus turn dangerous to the human body. This is why clad bonded and tri-ply copper cookwares are being sold sufficiently. Clad bonded copper cookware have copper as its main course and other metallic layers are used to provide good thermal conductivity of copper. Though copper cookwares are highly priced, the fast and precise style of cooking makes us want to invest more money and secure them at the earliest.

This model just cannot be ignored from being mentioned. The fast heating of this cookware also transfers the heat to the upper parts of the utensil. The heat is distributed equally throughout the cookware. It includes five layers of metals with a strong copper core in the middle. If you do not have much experience in using copper cookwares try it in low temperatures. There is a good chance that you may burn your food due to inexperience. But once you are used to it, cooking becomes magical. Buy it only if you can afford it. The pots and pans for induction stove top comes in three sets: the 7 piece, 10 piece, and the 14 piece. The 10 piece includes

  • 8 inch and 10 inch frying pan for induction stove
  • 2-Quart saucepan with stainless steel cover
  • 3-Quart saucepan with stainless steel cover
  • 3-Quart saute with stainless steel cover

Non-Stick Cookware

The non-stick layer in cookwares are provided to avoid sticking of foods and to reduce the use of oil in certain foods. This layer inside the utensil is made from materials like Teflon and Thermolon. By avoiding metallic spoons for stirring and using wooden spoons instead, the life of non-stick cookwares can be extended. Some hard anodized and cast iron based cookwares also uses non-stick layers for their utensils. The one thing that must be noted while buying this type is the diameter of the magnetic base. Some brands provide induction pans with magnetic base under 5 inches. Most induction cooktops do not detect such small pans even though they are induction compatible.

One of the most useful yet economic brand available in the market today is the T-fal C111SC Signature Nonstick Expert Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator Dishwasher Safe Cookware Set.

Hard anodized cookware is manufactured by placing aluminium in a chemical bath and then passing an electric charge through it. The oxide layer becomes thicker and makes the aluminium “hard-anodized”. Though the surface of the cookware is non-porous and stick resistant, the anodized layer adds weight to the whole cookware. All the flaws in using aluminium based cookwares like reaction to acids, and fragility becomes nulled. The cookware is non-stick , affordable, easy to use and has a good heating speed.

Ceramic Cookware

Ceramic cookware is a perfect choice for people who are health conscious. Being the safest cookware available, the buyer must always note whether the cookware is specified as PTFE-, PFOA- and cadmium free. These standards show that the cookware is toxic free and is environmentally friendly to use.

When it comes to induction cooking, most ceramic cookwares are not induction friendly. Most ceramic cookwares have aluminium as its core material and will be lined with ceramic inside and outside. But, there are some products that add stainless steel to its core to make it induction compatible.

Such a product is the Green Earth Induction Frying Pan 3-Piece Induction Cookware Set by Ozeri with Textured Ceramic Non-Stick Coating.

The cookware set consists of

  • 8” pan
  • 10” pan
  • 12” pan

Along with the hard aluminium core is an additional stainless steel layer that makes it induction friendly.

Stone Cookware

If slow cooking is what you intend to do, stone cookware is the best choice for you. The heat is retained on the cookware that makes your food be cooked evenly at a steady pace. Any kind of cooking can be done in a stone cooktop varying from deep grills to high temperature oven cooking.

Some modern cookware makers have started selling cookwares that are made of layers of aluminium and stainless steel, but stone lined to produce a non-sticky surface. The only drawback is that the cookware will be a little heavy to use.
